City ended January with a bang after defeating local rivals Solihull Moors 3-1 at Aggborough.
January started with a game to forget but ended with another fine performance and left City with four league wins during the month. Last year it was a month to forget for City, this year it was one to forget for Moors who started the new year on the top of the table but with four defeats and two draws their promotion dreams took a severe dent.
Steven Leslie started the game in place of Aaron Williams and within two minutes was on the score sheet. City went straight on the attack from the kick off and Leslie fired a shot in from the wide on the left which was spilled by Jasbir Singh and the ball fell over the line.
The pitch was heavy with one goal mouth being so heavy that Referee Sian Massey considered postponing the game barely an hour before kick off but with both Managers happy to play, the game went ahead.
City continued to press in the first half with Daniel Nti coming close on two occasions within a minute. His first effort was tipped onto the post by Singh after his clearance fell short then from the resulting corner a goal mouth scramble in the mud saw Singh save again from Nti.
Minutes later City had another golden opportunity after Aaron Brown flicked the ball on the half way line into the path of Ethan Moore whose great first touch saw him bearing down on the goal, but Singh again produced a quality save to deny a goal.
Moors came into the game in the last 10 minutes but City deservedly went into the break with a one goal lead.
The second half started off in the same vein. City continued to pound the Moors goal and after another scramble in the box which saw desperate defending, the ball eventually fell to Ethan Moore who smashed the ball home from three yards, much to the approval of The City faithful who again encouraged the team at every opportunity.
City had dominated most of the game but with their first on target shot of the game Moors pulled a goal back just four minutes later. Ex City player Jay Denny put Ryan Beswick through to beat the advancing Jose Viega to make it 2-1.
City had further opportunities but with time ticking by, Moors continued to press with their best spell of the game and nearly snatched an equaliser when Alex Dean shot wide. Minutes later Viega saved well from Denny but with Moors pushing forward City substitute Kristian Ramsey-Dickson was sent clear through the middle only to be brought down by Stuart Pierpoint who was shown a second yellow card.
With City defending deep and Moors desperately trying to level, Ramsey-Dickson was again sent clear in the last of the three added minutes & with City three on one, he squared to Ebby Nelson-Addy who had been involved in everything once again throughout the game & with Singh advancing smashed the ball home in off the cross bar to make the final score 3-1.
Another thoroughly deserved win for City whose next game on Saturday v Stockport County is sure to see the biggest crowd of the season at Aggborough.
