City U11s keen to maintain their unbeaten start to the season

Worcester City U11s visited Histon today for their 4th game with the boys keen to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

Straight from the whistle WCFC went are on the attack with Jack setting up Hayden in the first minute, only for the Histon goalie to pull off a good save to his right. This was soon followed up with good passing play between Corey and Korbin who released Jack 1 on 1 with the keeper, again he produced a good save to keep the score level in the first 5 minutes. On 10 minutes Jack tackled the left back strongly on the edge of the area and neatly found Hayden who crossed to Korbin on the edge of the area, he made no mistake by thumping the ball into the back of the net, 0-1! From the kickoff Histon make a real effort to lift their game and following some good pressure, the ref blows for a foul on the edge of the WCFC area, Archie screams at his defence to sort out the wall, the Histon attacker strikes the ball well, but the ball is saved well with Archie diving to his right. Histon keep trying, however they can’t seem to find a way through with a strong defensive midfield display from of Hodgey, working well with Ross, Connor & Joe in defence Histon can find no way through. With the first quarter nearly over, Jack & Korbin again combine well to release Jack down the centre, he looks up, sees the goalie off his line and laces the ball into the net from outside the area, 0-2!

Second quarter, Histon come out stronger this time and with them pushed further up the pitch WCFC have space to counter, JD sprints up the pitch and sets up Hayden on the right, he shoots on the edge of the box, great one handed save from the Histon keeper for a corner. In a more even quarter WCFC find chances more difficult to create and the ball is mostly played in the centre as both teams try to create a shooting opportunity. WCFC continue passing the ball around well, Haydon finds himself on the edge of the area with space and fires a shot at goal, the keeper saves but cannot keep hold of the ball and Jack scores his second off by pouncing on the loose ball, 0-3! With only minutes remaining of the quarter Hobbo sets up Jack for his & the teams first hat-trick of the season, 0-4!

Third & four quarters, with the weather taking a turn for the worse, the rain absolutely pours down and conditions quickly became very cold and wet! Understandably Histon are keen to keep the score respectable and with no subs they take a more defence approach to the rest of the game. It looks like the WCFC manager decides to play a more possession based game in these quarters as chances were few and far between. Good link up play following a corner from WCFC as Joe passes to Hobbo in space, he sets himself up nicely and fire the ball into the corner from outside the area, 0-5!

The Referee praised both sides for a great game of football and a superb attitude shown by both sets of players throughout. WCFC wish Histon all the best and look forward to playing later in the season.
