Worcester U11 v Histon

Worcester City FC v Histon in the final game of our first set of fixtures in the JPL.

First quarter, with WCFC adapting well to the wet and slippy conditions they did not have to wait long for the first goal scoring opportunity. Following good passing play from Corbin & Jack T, Scott found himself inside the box surrounded by defenders and calmly slotted the ball into the corner, 1-0! More good attacking skill down the wing by Corbin who sets Jack up, but he hits his shot just wide. With Histon rarely out of their own half their No10 does well on the own finding some space, but is kept out by Ross & Joe. This time WCFC attack on the break with Jack T powering through the middle with defenders in hot pursuit, he shoots, yet the goalie pulls off a great save to end the quarter 0-1.

Second quarter, with some changes from the bench WCFC show no letting up in their search for goals. Corey, Jay & Jack T combine well across the front line in a move that sees a good shot from Jack T going just wide of the post. With WCFC starting to take control of the game they clock up 15-20 passes on the spin in a move that takes the ball across the pitch back & then back to Arch who tries to tease Histon backline out to create some space, Hobbo goes wide to Corey and crosses for Jack T, but the goalie saves well again. Quick attack by Hodgey who uses his pace to go through the middle and with the goalie to beat he shoots, but again the keeper makes a great save by tipping the ball around the post for a corner. Hobbo takes it, the ball is cleared to Joe who fires a shot in on goal, it hits a defender and Jay reacts quickest on his weaker right foot to score, 2-0!

Third quarter, Histon have from the start been set up to contain WCFC, however with no subs in difficult wet condition things are made more difficult when one of the players unfortunately goes off injured leading to them having to play the rest of the game with 8 players. Scott is introduced and before long he scores with a neat lob over the keeper to make it 3-0! Histon continue working hard and defending well, but with Jay playing so well they struggle to stop him attacking down the left, this time he cuts inside and strikes a fine shot past the keeper to score his right foot again, 4-0! Questions are being asked after all this time with Jay only using his right to stand on, perhaps he is actually right footed after all! Another attack from WCFC with JD passing to Hayden, Corey turns to release Jay again, full of confidence he looks up and from front well outside the area he lashes an unstoppable shot into the top right hand corner, 5-0! Think he might actually be left & right footed!

Fourth quarter, following a slow start Corbin smartly plays a waited ball to Hobbo who hits it first time, the goalie gets down well and pushes the ball out for a corner. Following the corner from Jack T the ball is cleared, WCFC fire a shot into the box that hits a wall of defenders, Corbin pounces first to make it 6-0! With the WCFC defence high in the opposition half Histon clear it over the top and the chase is on between the striker does not give up and Archie, Archiegets there first and attempts to clear the ball, it rebounds off the striker towards the WCFC goal and Histon get a deserved goal for their efforts with 8 players, 6-1! WCFC don’t let up on the pressure and with some good work on the right from Corey he lofts a nice ball into Hodgey who bravely heads the ball into the net, 7-1!

The game was played with a great competitive spirit by both teams and credit to Histon for not letting their heads drop when faced with going a player down. Best of luck to Histon and the boys for the rest of the season.
