We pipped them at the gate at Yate!

Worcester City U11s welcomed Yate for our first home game of the season.

WCFC started off very brightly in the first quarter playing some very good attacking football, in particular switching play very quickly which caused Yate a number of problems. Within minutes WCFC were rewarded as Ross spotted Corey in space, played the long pass over the top and hedid well to beat the defender to the ball before chipping it into the back of the net with a good finish, 1-0 WCFC! Soon after Ross, Hobbo, and Scott linked up well on the right to create space for Scott who played in a tempting cross that was cleared by the Yate defence, this would be a common theme in a good game of football played mostly between the Yate defence and the WCFC attack. WCFC went forward again this time on the left with Jay, feeding Corbin who played in Corey again, but his shot was cleared well by the keeper. Corbin and Corey interchanging passes well and Corbin finds Corey with a blind pass around the back of the Yate defence, one on one with the keeper he just pulls his shot just wide.

Several changes in the 2nd quarter, and Yate have the early pressure as they search for an equalizer, WCFC stand firm and as the quarter goes on they begin to gain more of the possession. Good play by Hayden who releases Jack, but Yate do well again to clear the danger. Great corner by Corbin which Hobbo gets on the end of, he shoots across the goal and the goalie bravely saves at the feet of the WCFC attack. Freekick by Joe whipped in and goalie makes another good save. Good counter attack by Yate results in Archie saving down low to his right. Ross brings the ball out from the back, passes to Connor, quick one two with Hayden, he releases Jack who calmly finds the corner to make it, 2-0 WCFC!

Going into the 3rd quarter both teams change things around, first attack goes to WCFC with Hayden beating his man for pace, he lined himself up to shoot , but the Yate defender blocks the shot well. Yate going forward quickly finding WCFC on the wrong side, Joe fouls the tricky No 10 on the edge of the area. Archie organises his wall and positions himself well to save the shot. More pressure from Yate down the left hand side and the forward does well to get his shot off to make it, 2-1!

Last quarter with the game finely balanced, chances for both teams with Hodgey running at the defence forcing a corner. Hobbo plays the set piece and with Scott is wise to it, he picks up the ball drives forward firing a shot at the goalpost, great effort. Yate continue working it out from the back, the defence release the No10 again who glides past to WCFC players, he makes it to the edge of the area before shooting into the side netting, good effort. Both teams still working hard to get a result, WCFC attack with Scott who is unlucky not to score with a fine effort. More pressure from WCFC following a lovely corner from Jay, he finds Hobbo who shoots across the goal, but no one can get their toe on it...With the game really open Yate push forward and get a good shot on goal which is well held by Archie. The last few minutes are quite nervous for both teams as both teams search for something out of the game, however the ref blows with the score at 2-1 to WCFC.

Congratulations to both sets of players for showcasing such a committed & talented team performance, the score shows it was a close game and WCFC look forward to playing Yate back at their place later in the year.
