Three Moor goals in the third quarter!

Worcester City C v Solihull Moors

With the first batch of fixtures played, WCFC were really looking forward to playing different opposition and after looking at their results Solihull Moors were going to be a real test for today.

First quarter, having not played each other before both teams started quite cautiously with the majority of the play being in midfield which resulted in very few chances being created. 10mins in WCFC have the first half chance with Scotty playing in Jack T who turned his man well before putting his shot just wide. Soon after Hayden runs down the left, latches on to a looping ball, he takes his shot early, but fires just over the bar. No other real chances for both teams in a keenly contested first quarter.

Second quarter, Moors start well and pressure WCFC in the midfield with lots of neat and tidy play by both teams, but no sign of either goalies getting their gloves dirty. Moors gaining more possession in the centre and following some good link up play the right winger finds himself 1 on 1 with Connor, however he uses his strength well to guide the ball back to Archie. A couple of corners from WCFC which are dealt with by Moors, on the second corner the ball is cleared to Joe who fires it hard & low at the keeper who saves well. Another pinpoint cross between 2 defenders from Hayden on the right finds Jack T who brings the ball down well, but the visiting defenders clear the danger. Moors finish the quarter strong with a number of balls being played through the centre of the WCFC defence which test JD, Hodgey, Connor & Archie who stand strong and stop any real attempt on goal.

Third quarter, and within minutes Moors create the best chance of the game so far, a cross put in from the right leaves the attacker 1 on 1 with only the goalie to beat from 5yrds, yet Archie makes himself big and pulls off a great save. With the game becoming very open WCFC push forward and gain a corner, the ball is whipped in, cleared by Moors to Hobbo who takes a touch before firing a stunning shot into the bottom left hand corner, 1-0! Minutes later WCFC attack again with Scotty passing to Jay, he returns the ball to Scotty who turns and shoots past the keeper, 2-0! With Moors under lots of pressure WCFC go for goals again, this time Jay & Hodgey combine well, Hodgey has the chance to shot from a tight angle, but shows good composure by lining up Corbin for a sweaty, 3-0! Towards the end of the quarter WCFC nearly score an identical goal with Joe passing to Jay who finds Corbin in the same spot, but this time he fires over.

Fourth quarter, Moors come out flying determined to get a goal for their efforts. Almost from the whistle they create a chance which is stopped by some last ditch defending by Ross, Connor & Joe. Under lots of pressure WCFC pass long to Hayden who takes on his man down the right before a releasing a lovely weighted pass to Jack T on the edge of the area, with only one touch he drills the goal into the back of the net leaving the goalie no chance, class finish & setup, 4-0!

Whilst the score makes it look like WCFC dominated, the reality was that without the goal mad 5 minutes in the 3rd quarter the teams were even for long periods. Our thanks go to The Moors who gave us a tough competitive game played in the right way with the ball on the floor, well done and I’m sure we’ll have a great game in the return fixture.
