First home game of 2015, ends up being the first loss of the season

After a slight delay to the kickoff time due to other games going to extra time, the boys started on a decent pitch and with the weather being great for the time of year.

1st quarter - Very competitive with WCFC having good possession without creating any real chances. WBA seemed to be playing a system with only 2 at the back which gave them the extra player in midfield/attack and lead to them to being dangerous on the counter. No great chances for either team although towards the end of the 1st quarter WBA started to take advantage of that extra player and WCFC were having to do lots of last ditch challengers to keep the score level.

2nd quarter - WBA start stronger and place WCFC under lots of pressure in the midfield with their tricky No8 trying to pick out the forwards with passes into space behind the WCFC defence. Archie in the WCFC goal is called into action quite a lot and playing like a defender to cut out the through balls. The first goal of the game comes from an attack down the left where WBA created some space on the edge of the area, the attacker shoots, it hits a WCFC defender and is deflected into the WCFC goal with the keeper having no chance 0-1! Both teams are reduced to a number of long range efforts which are either off target or don't trouble the keepers.

3rd quarter - With WCFC chasing an equaliser they leave themselves more open at the back and Archie does well to save a number of shots on the WCFC goal. WBA making life difficult for WCFC with plenty of possession around the penalty area. Following a second WBA corner WCFC attack on the counter with Hayden playing in Jack Tustin who has been trying really hard against 2 quality defenders , he carries the ball up to the edge of the WBA box, shoots, but it's saved well by the ex-WCFC goalie. Soon after a WBA midfielder carries the ball from the half way line right up the edge of the area without a challenge, his shot gets blocked and falls into the path of another WBA player who places the ball onto the corner 0-2! More saves from Archie following pressure from WBA, but WCFC continue defending well and keep WBA from scoring again.

4th quarter - WCFC come out determined to get a consolation goal and it appears like they have adopted the same formation as WBA with a extra player in midfield. This lead to a lack of space in the centre to play flowing football and the game being quite frantic without any real chances created by both teams for the first 10 minutes. WBA strike first again though with a long pass down the left the winger crosses the ball into the penalty area, the attacker turns well and places the ball into the corner from near the penalty spot 0-3! WCFC keep working hard, but fail to find create any further chances again a very strong WBA side.

Well done to WBA who are a very good side with quality throughout and a special mention to their 2 man defence who mopped up everything WCFC could throw at them. WCFC worked hard and tried to compete in every position, but when faced with a different system and the best team we have played this season they could not quite find a way to score. Great game and we look forward to the return fixture!
