WCFC 9 v 1 South Gloucs PDC

Match Report
Saturday 25th April, Worcester City today welcomed South Gloucester to their home for both teams final league tie of the season. Both teams still had something to play for, this being a place in the top Eight and a tournament on the 16th May. 1st Qtr, Worcester City started strong and dominated play in the middle of the park setting up attacks, one after another. South Gloucester was strong at the back with a good defence and great goalkeeper breaking down and saving strike from the Worcester forwards. 5 mins into the game South Gloucester won a ball in their half and attacked Worcester down the Left wing, drawing in the the right back and then playing a killing pass to Ailfe Andrews. Andrews took one touché and struck it into the net, great goal giving the Worcester keeper no chance (0-1). This gave South Gloucester a big high and gave the Worcester boys something to think about. The quarter then played to an end very evenly.

2nd Qtr, from kick-off you could tell Worcester had re- grouped again, Jack Hobbs controlled and dominated midfield, starting attack after attack leading to corners from the L/H side which Worcester had their chances to score. Again the keeping and defending from South Gloucester was good and disciplined stopping Worcester time and time again. 10 mins in Corbin Jarvis won the ball just inside South Gloucester half and drove down the left, turning in with every stride he took. The defender matched him stride for stride, then Corbin let fly with the left foot scoring an unstoppable fantastic goal in the L/H Conner (1-1). From the restart the game again evened out and played to an end in the centre of the pitch.

3Qtr, Darron Hobbs saw places were Worcester City could break down South Gloucester and sent Worcester on with clear instruction; it wasn’t long before they had their first opportunity to carry it out. From a pass out from the keeper Josh Davies pressed the centre back hard after Corey Smith had forced the right back to play it towards the goal to him. The centre half played the ball out quickly, it fell to Jack Hobbs, who beat one player, played a one-two with Scott wheeler and passed the ball with lift with his left foot into the net (2-1). Straight from the restart Worcester forced the game into South Gloucester’s half and with a move starting from an advanced L/H side the ball was played backwards By Corbin Jarvis infield to Josh Davies who intern played it back to Jack Hobbs, Jack played quickly to Jack Tustin on the R/H side who played a great though ball cutting the defence to Scott Wheeler. With a devastating strike Wheeler scores low to the L/H corner of Goal (3-1). Again Worcester on the attack from the restart, this time Scott wheeler winning the Ball in the centre of the South Gloucester half and passing to Josh Davies who plays a pass through the middle of the two centre half’s for Corey Smith to Place the ball again in the corner of the net (4-1). After the start south Gloucester pushed hard to get back into the game with some great balls played out to the wings. Conner Seery on the L/H side tidied up with great discipline forcing the attackers wide winning the ball and playing it out for a throw-in or safely to the Midfield. On the L/H side it was Ross Beesley (the Rock) showing great foot work and accuratese playing balls down the lines and inside to the midfield after breaking down attacks from South Gloucester. Just before the end of the quarter it was Scott Wheeler tapping the ball in on the line from some great work by Ross Beesley driving from just inside the opposition half beating three players before playing Corey Smith in. Corey used his speed to get on the ball 3 metres out and pass the ball under the keeper who made a last ditch great save to bring the ball to a holt on the line, Scott did what he does best and put the ball in the net (5-1).

4th Qtr, from kick-off Worcester again dominated forcing the game to be played in South Gloucester’s half. Corbin Jarvis was pulling the Worcester string now as they went back to 3 across the back. From the centre he played Haydon Leek in to power home a strike from the L/H side with ferrous power yet again hitting the corner of the net (6-1). From the restart Worcester again pushed forward, Cobin Jarvis again to Haden Leek inside the box and this time a lovely stroked pass into the same corner of the net (7-1). Again from the restart it was all Worcester with the odd break from South Gloucester witch captain jack hobbs, Josh Davies and Ross Beesley cleared up. On one break from south Gloucester Ross Beesley won the ball just inside his own half, he drove forward beating 3 players to find himself inside south Gloucester box, he strikes the ball towards the corner of the gaol and scores after a great attempt by a South Gloucester defender pushing the ball onto the post and in (8-1). Towards the end of the game Haydon Leek forces the South Gloucester winger to over -run a ball. Josh Davies wins it and turns into the centre of the opposition’s midfield, beats one player and passes the ball just in front of Scott Wheeler. Scott unleashes the best strike of the game straight into the top R/H corner of the gaol (9-1).

The game was a great show from Worcester who played very well but south Gloucester was always in the game. The finishing from both teams was fantastic today with not many shots going wide and testing both keepers all throughout the Match. Worcester City wish South Gloucester all the best throughout the summer and look forward to playing a great footballing team who always play from the back as it should be to develop the player.
