City pick up back-to-back wins

The Blue And Whites made the short trip to Ribbesford Meadow, Bewdley this afternoon, and returned home with all 3 points.

It was a game that saw City with the majority of the ball, and the majority of the chances. The biggest chance of the first half fell to Billy Shaw. The midfielder broke free after a through ball. Just as he pulled the trigger, the ball bobbled off the turf and his effort looped over the bar.

Both sides went in goalless at the break.

The second half continued in much the same vein as the first, with Bewdley comfortable sitting back looking to counter, and City with the majority of the ball. The best chance fell again to Billy Shaw. Aaron Roberts looped in a cross which Shaw met with his head. The ball looped back across the goal and bounced off the post.

The breakthrough finally came in the 71st minute. A prolonged spell of City pressure resulted in the ball falling to striker Kyonn Evans, who turned and drilled an effort low past the Bewdley Town goalkeeper, sending the great number of travelling Faithful behind the goal into raptures.

Bewdley were thrown a lifeline on 75 minutes, when, after a few moments of deliberation, the referee and linesman were in agreeance that Jordan Stoddart was worthy of a straight red card following an aerial challenge.

The final 15 minutes saw Bewdley take advantage of the extra man and push upfield looking for an equaliser. City were more than equal to Bewdley's efforts and The Blue And Whites held strong to secure the 3 points.

Today's victory sees The Blue And Whites climb 6 points clear of the relegation zone, with both Uttoxeter Town and Wolverhampton Casuals suffering defeats.

City continue their league campaign next weekend with a trip to Tividale for a 3pm kick off.
