City make it 3 wins on the bounce

A first-half header from City Captain, Aaron Roberts was the difference this afternoon at The Beeches, giving The Blue And Whites their third victory in a row.

The first half was a strong showing from City, with the winning goal coming in the 17th minute. Roberts broke clear from his marker and found himself alone 6 yards out to glance a header past the Tividale keeper.

City continued to press forward and looked the more likely of the two sides to score again. Billy Shaw had the beating of his man numerous times, delivering dangerous crosses, but Tividale held out. As the half closed out, Shaw again broke clear of the Tividale backline. His first-time left-footed effort was wide of the mark.

The second half turned in to a scrappy affair. Niggly fouls from both sides breaking up any chance of momentum. Tividale grew in to the game, but Whitcombe was rarely bothered in the City goal.

Again, City looked the more likely to score. Taylor-Randle and Hartley both had efforts well saved by Peter Hawk in the Tividale goal.

Tividale did nearly swipe a point at the death through substitute Nashawn Blake. As the clock ticked in to the 94th minute, Blake found space in the City area and rose to head the ball. His effort dribbled wide as the referee blew up for full time.

That makes it 3 clean sheets and 3 victories in a row for The Blue And Whites, with today's victory pulling them 7 points clear of the drop zone.

Up next, City welcome Wolverhampton Casuals to Claines Lane on Saturday 11th February for a 3pm kick off.
