Still plenty of games on last week

There were plenty of bright spots across a wet weekend as several Worcester City Youth sides defied the weather.

Saturday’s home matches at Perdiswell were postponed but there were a number of away fixtures with the two Under 8 teams plus the Under 10s and Under 11s putting in encouraging performances against Paget Rangers, Birmingham City Girls, Kidderminster Panthers and Dudley Sports.

City’s Under 17 Girls maintained their unbeaten start to the season and went top of the Mercian Junior Football League with a battling display against Welland.

With only 11 players available and without a regular goalkeeper amongst them, the girls showed great character to produce another victorious performance as they stormed back from falling a goal behind to win 6-1. Leah Ritson (2), Holly Tew, Rosie Lawley, Laura Shanley and Liv Wood were on target.

There were goals a plenty for both the Under 15s and Under 13s.

In the WFA Saturday Cup, the U15s won 12-0 at Welland Junior Lions with Jesse Asomugha (4), Will Cottell (2), Jamie Neath (2), Sam Cotton, Jamie Hill, Matt Athey and George Hymas all on target.

Without a league fixture, the Under 13s travelled to Gloucester City for a friendly and ran out 8-1 victors. Rafe Green hit a hat-trick with Hayden Russell (2), Kyle Clayton, Josh Francis and Ashton Doyle the other marksmen.

On Sunday, a goal by Beth Taylor wasn’t enough to prevent City Ladies from slipping to a 2-1 defeat to Coventry Sphinx in the West Midlands Regional Women’s Football League.
