A good game of football

Today we travelled to play Forest Green Rovers at Stroud Agricultural College. It was a bright and sunny morning and the pitch was in excellent condition considering all of the rain that we have had recently.

Q1 - Worcester started the game in determined fashion and enjoyed most of the possession in the early stages. Whilst Worcester did not create too many opportunities they took the lead shortly before the end of the first quarter. Tom Mills picked the ball up in the centre of midfield and drove towards the opposition penalty area and hit an unstoppable shot which went into the top corner of the Forest Green net off the underside of the bar – a great goal! 0-1

Q2 – Worcester continued to dominate and went 2 ahead after a pin point cross found Callum Lovegrove in the centre of the box. His well placed header initially rebounded off the inside of the post, Callum was quick to follow up with another shot which was well saved by Forest Green keeper. Callum was not to be denied though and he forced the loose ball home from close range - A lesson to all in perseverance! Worcester continued to have the lion share of the possession, although they did not overly trouble the home keeper further. 0-2

Q3 – Worcester again to experimented with a change in formation which enabled them to create more chances but at the same time allowed Forest Green to see more of the ball. Worcester forced a number of corners and from one of those, taken by Olly Berry, the ball fell to Callum Lovegrove who was first to react in the box and placed a firm shot into the corner of the net. 0-3

Q4 – Worcester “free styled” a little in the final quarter and this enabled Forest Green to enjoy more of the ball and they appeared to have found a way back into the game after their forward had a shot well saved by Ben Clay, although another one of their players was first to the rebound to place the ball into the empty net. The comeback was short lived though as Worcester scored a fourth goal soon after the restart when Joe Palmer intercepted a back pass and rifled a shot into the corner of the Forest Green net. 1-4

This was a good game of football played by two teams who play the game in the right way. We wish Forest Green well for the rest of the season.

Awards : Gold – Tom Mills, Silver – Finn Syson, Bronze – Callum Lovegrove (chosen by opposition manager)
