Worcester City FC U11s visited the Kempsey Colts U11s team at Plovers Rise, Kempsey on Saturday 6th November 2021 for a friendly 7-a-side mini tournament between two Kempsey Colts teams and Worcester City FC.

Managers Laurence Helme and Luke Morris presided over the team.

Team Sheet
Goal Keeper – Tom
Defenders - Theo
Midfielders - Max (captain), Arlo, Ethan and Olly
Forwards - Fraser

First Match (Kempsey Colts Team A)
In the 7th minute, City created a goal scoring chance. City won a throw-in midway in their own half; Max stepped up to take the throw and passed it to Olly. After getting the ball under control, Olly ran with the ball towards the centre circle being pursued by a Colts midfielder. As Olly crossed the half way line he looked up to see Fraser making a forward run and played a through ball past a line of Colts defenders for him to run onto. Fraser picked up the ball just outside the Colts penalty area and ran with it into the box before taking a shot at goal, the ball was heading low and left to the goal but the Colts goal keeper got down and made a great save to deny him.

In the 13th minute, the City defence denied Colts a goal scoring chance. A Colts forward broke through the City midfield with the ball and as they entered the City penalty area, they shot at goal. Theo in the City defence attempted to block the shot but being as close to the attacker as he was, the ball got deflected on its path towards goal. Tom the City goal keeper dived to his left anticipating the shot going that way but the deflection meant it went straight down the middle of the goal. Luckily Tom was able to stretch out a leg as he dove to deflect the ball wide and out for a corner.

In the 15th minute, City created a goal scoring chance. City had won a corner and Olly stepped up to take the kick. From his midfield position, Ethan had taken up a spot just outside the Colts penalty area and was in clear space with no defenders marking him. Olly crossed the ball perfectly for Ethan to control before taking a shot as the Colts defenders rushed out to block his effort, Ethan managed to steer his shot passed all the players in the area but unfortunately it went inches wide of the left post of the Colts goal.

Despite ending with no goals and honours even, the City team put on some great displays of passing and movement between the midfield and forward players and with a game of standard length, would probably have gone on to take the victory.

Second Match (Kempsey Colts Team B)
In the 1st minute, City created a goal scoring chance. Fraser was in control of the ball and was breaking towards the Colts penalty area, as he approached the edge of the area he unleashed a shot which was on target but was saved by the Colts goal keeper above his head.

In the 8th minute, City opened their scoring account in the match. City won a free kick for a trip on a City player just outside the Colts penalty area and located fairly centrally. Fraser stepped up to take the direct free kick and his shot was perfectly placed in the middle of the goal and just below the cross bar, the Colts keeper attempted to make the save but the pace and height on the ball meant they couldn’t keep it out (that was Fraser’s first goal of the season).

In the 9th minute, City created a goal scoring chance. City won an almost identical free kick for a trip on a City player just outside the Colts penalty area and located fairly centrally. This time Max stepped up to take the direct free kick and his shot was on target going into the bottom left corner of the goal before the Colts keeper got down and pulled off a great save and pushed the ball out for a corner.

Another great game from City with a continuation of the great passing and movement from the first game going into the second.

Well played to both Colts teams and good luck for the rest of the season. The matches were watched by a couple of dozen respectful spectators who enjoyed some great games of football. All the City players put in great performances in the games but it was Theo (first match) and Fraser (second match) who were awarded man-of-the-match.

Thanks to all the City parents for their support on match day.
