A great first half performance from City, that faded in the second half as the boys appeared to lose their way

Worcester City FC U11s hosted the Wilden Village Youth Wildcats U11s team at Perdiswell Leisure Centre, Worcester on Saturday 16th October 2021 for a league match.

Managers Laurence Helme and Luke Morris presided over the team.

Team Sheet
Goal Keeper – Tom
Defenders - Joel, Theo & Will
Midfielders - Olly, Luke, Ethan (captain), Toby, Arlo, Hayden & Ewan
Forwards - Max & Fraser

First Half
In the 2nd minute, Wildcats opened their scoring account in the match following a misjudged shot at the City goal.

In the 6th minute, City opened their scoring account in the match. Tom the City goal keeper had the ball in hand following a shot at goal from a Wildcats attacker. Tom launched the ball up field into the Wildcats half where Fraser picked up the ball; Fraser played the ball out wide to the left wing for Toby to run onto. Toby looked up to see Max breaking into the box and played the ball across to him. Max took a touch of the ball and as the Wildcats goal keeper came out to close down the angles, he shot the ball into the back of the net (that was Max’s second goal of the season and Toby’s second assist).

In the 9th minute, Wildcats scored another goal in the match from a corner kick which was knocked in from an attempted clearance.

In the 12th minute, City scored another goal in the match. City had a goal kick and Joel stepped up to take the kick, he launched a long ball which made it past the half way line and a Wildcats midfielder attempted to control it as it bounced but the ball went under his foot. Anticipating that the ball would make it through the midfield, Max made a run from the half way line and intercepted the ball mid-way into the Wildcats half. Max was now one on one with the Wildcats goal keeper and they came running out to close the angles but Max shot low and left and the ball found the back of the net (that was Max’s third goal of the season and Joel’s first assist).

In the 15th minute, the City defence denied Wildcats a goal scoring chance. A Wildcats attacker had managed to get the ball into the City penalty area and took a shot at goal. The shot was on target and destined to go into the top right of the City goal until, Tom the City goal keeper, made a reflex save jumping up and with outstretched arms to block the shot.

Second Half
City had a great first half and were looking to capitalise on the performance in the second half and maybe come away with the victory. However it quickly became clear that the concentration levels of the City players had dropped slightly from the first half and that was all it took for the Wildcats team to pounce.

In the 34th minute, Wildcats scored another goal in the match.

In the 40th minute, Wildcats scored another goal in the match.

In the 41st minute, the City defence denied Wildcats a goal scoring chance. A Wildcats attacker took a shot at goal from just outside the City penalty area. The shot was on target and destined to go into the top left of the City goal until, Tom the City goal keeper, jumped to his right and blocked the shot with his outstretched hand, the ball ricocheted off Tom’s hand but he was able to quickly gather the rebound.

In the 45th minute, Wildcats scored another goal in the match following a trip in the City penalty area, with the resultant penalty kick being converted.

In the 52nd minute, Wildcats scored another goal in the match.

In the 54th minute, City created a goal scoring chance. City had won a corner and Toby stepped up to cross the ball into the box. The ball passed right across the face of the goal and as most players went near post to try and get it, the ball flew over them all and landed near the far post where Joel was waiting to pounce. Joel took a first time stab at the ball and connected, the ball headed goal wards, but unfortunately for City it struck the base of the post and ricocheted back into play for a Wildcats defender to clear away.

In the 57th minute, Wildcats scored another goal in the match.

The glut of goals from the opposition in the second half was partly due to the City concentration levels dropping but it was also due to the Wildcats team raising their game and being clinical with their finishing, something the City team couldn’t match on the day.

Well played Wildcats and good luck for the rest of season. The match was watched by a couple of dozen respectful spectators who enjoyed a great game of football. All the City players put in great performances in the game but it was Max who was awarded man-of-the-match.

Thanks to all the City parents for their help and support on match day.
